Robert Edward Wakeling

Bob,
We worked together for 20 something years at Stats NZ. It was a privilege Bob. Your sincerity and kindness knew no bounds. Always there and willing to drop everything and help when technology and other issues
got the better of any member of the team. And, then you became the Boss. Things didn’t change, you were still Our sincere kind,competent Bob who had the interests of his team members at heart. And what a team we were.
This is the one time that sticks with me Bob. This particular day I was working on a very high hill in Napier and being short of breath was puffing and blowing like an old traction engine. You phoned to ask how i was. Between gasps I informed you that I deserved a gold medal , After a few house calls and one interview I finally arrived at the top of the hill and Bob, there you were with a silly grin on your face and holding a Gold Medal, which you proceeded to put around my neck. I’ve still got that medal Bob.

Bob, I am sorry I couldn’t come to say goodbye today. To your lovely family, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I first meet you on the BOT at school when you employed me. I am still there 20 years later. I loved teaching Scott; such a bright young man. I won’t forget you Bob. Rest easy. Love Sarah Simcock xxx

Rest in Peace Bob,
you were always a bright spirit in my life, with an easy smile for me, even in changing difficult circumstances.
May you continue to shine wherever you travel.
Near or far you will live on sparkling in our hearts with your own special brand of humour.
Your service was well attended by many who love you and your whanau.
Take good care as you become one with the ultimate union.

I will offer Sue, as many hugs as my arms will stretch out to!

I am grateful for Bob. We worked together for a couple of years and he was assigned as a buddy for me to get me familiar with my role. He was not only a wealth of knowledge and experience, he made himself available to help me find my fit and also walk me through a difficult season at work where I needed his advice and guidance. It is hard to believe he has gone so soon, and I knew he was looking forward to so much after he finished up at work. Thank you Bob for being there for me and so many. Blessings upon you and your family. You will be missed.

I will remember Bob as a very sincere and genuine work colleague and friend. I hugely valued his caring and wisdom during our time at Stats NZ together.
I was very saddened by the news and I send heart felt thoughts to Bob's family.

Dear Marc and Sue,
Even though mine and Bob’s path crossed only for a couple days, I had the pleasure of his presence in my world through Marc. The impression he left on me was a lasting one. During our interactions, he appeared quiet initially, yet was very involved and genuinely caring, interested and had a wonderful sense of humour. My heart goes out to you all during this difficult time. What gives me joy is the obvious love and connection he shared with family. He clearly meant the world to all of you. Sending you my deepest heartfelt condolences. May his memories always be a source of strength and comfort for you.

We met Bob during the preschool years with our children at Playcentre. Sue busy at work & Bob there with their boys usually the lone male among all us ladies. He just slotted in while still being very much himself, friendly to all & easy going. I expect those boys now as adults & some parents themselves, will understand & treasure those foundational special years spent with their Dad. Privileged to have known you Bob, we’ll miss you, Ann & Chris.

My dearest friend. To never be able to call and hear “Allo!” again breaks my heart. Your last words to me were “put in a word for me to the big fulla would ya?” and I certainly did. My hope is you met Jesus before leaving us and will be waiting for your loved ones on the other side. Thank you for your listening ear, guidance and being the best drinking buddy ever.
