We are indirect neighbours of George, and live in Ridgeway Terrace, number 21. We are about to move, so we had him up to our house only about 3 weeks ago for a cup of tea and a chat. In the few times we have met with him he has been absolutely delightful. We were so saddened to read of Georges passing yesterday. We would like to pass on our sincere condolences to George's family and friends. What a lovely man. I'm sure he will be missed by many. Farewell George. With much respect from Haley & Wayne Atkins.

We discussed nonsense solutions to all the world’s problems almost everyday by phone. But none of the world's politicians would listen. “Tis all a chequer board of nights and days where destiny with men for pieces moves and mates and stays, and one by one back in the box it lays”. I really miss you. We loved being with you. Good bye, George from all your friends and family

George and I taught together at the Correspondence school in Wellington for many years and together we ran many social events there. He was always good fun to be around. We visited George and Jane in Raupunga when we were touring NZ in our campervan. It is nice that his final resting place will be there, with his whanau.
