Frederick William George Swain

Peacefully died with family at home on Sunday 11th December 2022. 
Loved husband of Leigh, father to Chris, Nat and Nick, and father-in-law to Ricky, Cindy and Saskia. Adored Bilbil to Sumer, Charlize, Ejay, Jasper, George, Frankie, Pepper, Oscar, Arlo, and Rupert.
A celebration for Frederick was held on Monday 19th December at 2pm at the Napier War Memorial Centre, 48 Marine Parade, Napier.

A special thank you to the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff at Villa 6 Hastings, Ward 23 Palmerston North, and Cranford Hospice.

Sending heartfelt thoughts and hugs to you and the family Leigh, and work associates.... We had a long association with Fred going back to the days when he stayed at the Vista in Wairoa with us. Then following through with exceptional service to our family members ever since. We have enjoyed many wonderful conversations - always with an interesting and funny conclusion. Fred has certainly left this world having contributed enormously and positively impacting so many people. RIP Fred.

To Leigh and family..
We were saddened to hear such sad news.
Fred was a respected, humorous , in sight full and enthusiastic member of the central business district of Napier and well as a great “ Southlander”
He was brave, positive and philosophical about his illness and was a beacon for hope.

Our thoughts are with you all as you gather together today to celebrate the life of Fred. We wish we could be there with you all. Please know you are in our thoughts. There are many fond memories I have of us as boys growing up on the farm and then when we moved into town. The pain of his death is not something that can go away, but what makes it bearable is knowing that we all share some wonderful memories of our lives shared with him. He has left us a part of him within those memories that neither time nor death can take away. As a son, a brother, a husband, a father, a grandfather and a friend, he will be greatly missed. Gone far too early, but will never be forgotten. May you rest easy now my brother - Fred.

Dear Swain family
We were very saddened to hear of the recent passing of Frederick Swain. Frederick was a gifted and talented optometrist and a very caring and quick witted gentleman who will be missed greatly by colleagues, friends and family alike. I was saddened to learn of the death of Fred when I visited my mother recently. He had been her optometrist and she said Fred would always ask after me even though I had not seen him for many years. I knew Fred through his involvement with basketball. He was an extremely friendly, caring, considerate and approachable person. My thoughts are with his family at this time.

Dear Swain whanau
Please accept my sincere sympathy for the loss of Frederick. Although it seems a long time ago, I well remember the fun times at Napier Intermediate as a young teacher with Chris and Nat both coming through my class. Through all events Frederick and Leigh were the ever present proud parents, ready with kind smiles and encouragement for their kids, and the kids of others. I never had the pleasure of teaching NIck, but I’m sure the apple hasn’t fallen from the tree.
