14 May 1915 - 22 Apr 2014

Passed away April 22, 2014 aged 98 years (born May 14, 1915).  Dearly loved wife of the late Charles Hodgkinson.  Much loved mother of Kenneth and Lenore (Canberra, Australia), John and Helen (New Plymouth), Eric and Jenny (Auckland) and Philip and Nancy (Deniliquin, Australia).  Very much loved grandmother of 12 grandchildren and great grandmother of 21 great grandchildren.

A celebration of Betty’s life was held at the Onekawa Bible Church (Riverbend Road, Napier) on Wednesday April 30. Tributes may be left at our website www.dunstalls.co.nz Or posted to the Hodgkinson Family, c/- PO Box 1055, Napier 4140.

Dear Grandma,

At least now you have peace and are with Grandad. It's been a long time since we spoke or saw each other but I know you we're still up to date with my life and what was happening. Even though we didn't always see eye to eye I know you loved me and I thank you for that. My memories will always be of you saying, "Charlie don't..." I realise now when I think of you saying it that there was always a little twinkle in your eye as though it was impossible for you to be mad with him. I guess that's true love. . Rest in peace Grandma knowing your in our thoughts and prayers. Love always Andrew and Jules, Christopher, Lana and baby Jesse.

Dear Grandma,
Nearly 99, so close...Samuel and Jacob were hoping that you would make it to 100 and get that letter from the queen!! One of my most vivid memories of you, was singing in an incredibly high voice "God Save the Queen." Whenever I think of you that is not far from my thoughts, and when I hear it sung I think only of you. But even better than the queen, is the knowledge that you will be celebrating your century with the only true king. I know you will be watching over all of your family from heaven, as you did on earth, and I pray that we are a blessing to you. That we make you proud. I love you,

Mum you will be so sadly missed.What a wonderful mother you have been to me especially having lost my Mother when she was only 71. You have soldiered on year after year and somehow it just seemed as though you would always be here. That last time I saw you on my recent visit to New Zealand just a couple of weeks before you died I realised your body was tired and you would soon be going to be with the Lord Jesus whom you loved and served all your life. What a wonderful role model you have been to all of us - your family and friends.
The memories of you and Dad will always be with me especially the many decades you lived at Simla Terrace up on the hill. However you adapted well to whatever life gave you and though you were reluctant to leave the hill you enjoyed your time at Roseanne Rest Home and did not look back. You then had to move to Hampton Court for high care and once again you adapted to your changed circumstances. What courage and steadfastness you have shown all your life. The race has been run and for nearly 99 years you have lived life to the full and said everything was "lovely".To think you were still living alone and driving the car till you were 95 years is amazing. I think your favourite word was "lovely" and even when your vocabulary was so limited in recent times I heard you say "lovely" several times when I visited in January this year. The recent visit did make me sad to realise how frail your body had become and you were no longer able to say "lovely". However, I am happy and comforted in knowing that you are now enjoying your heavenly home and I am sure you are finding it "lovely"! You always said you did not have daughters-in -law but that we were all your daughters so I am signing off with lots and lots of love from your daughter Lenore
