Pat passed away peacefully at his home on April 30, surrounded by Whanau. Loved husband of Catherine (deceased) and loving father to Jan, Mary-Anne, Rob, John, Tim and Jesma. Devoted Poppa to Bailey (deceased), Ash, Jerri and Travis Magill.

On Tuesday May 2 Pat’s life was celebrated with a Hikoi departing from The Pie Man in Maraenui at 9.30am, to Pukemokimoki Marae (1.2kms), where lunch followed a Powhiri. We listened to the yarns and tales from the many people Pat has walked with throughout his life. On Wednesday May 3 at 11am there was a service for Pat at the Marae, followed by Haakiri. Pat & Whanau then departed for his private cremation.

Pat lived a unique life, full of love and a determination to contribute to the community he valued so much.

Pat would welcome donations to Napier Pilot City Trust http://napierpilotcity.org/donate to ensure the community development projects he supported can continue to flourish.

My dearest dearest Matua Pat,

I just woke up crying from a dream of you ???????????????? You were on a fishing waka egging me on to walk on the water to get to you ????????????

I remember we talked about how you and I know You came to bring the Kapai Good News it was Your calling and I know You always felt ford the least of "men" whanau like Us. In prisons and gangs and in need of your Kapaitanga!

You are and always will be A (????Matthew 4:19) "fisher of men" / whanau for God xYou were the living example of scripture and the one that gets me the most is this because it reminds me and everyone of why you helped out so many like me and Us in need

Because

You Pat Magill treated Us all like Jesus does (????Matthew 25:40) "And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. I was "Joybells," to Pat I was his neighbour few doors down #63. I named Pat the Mayor of Westshore. 60yrs I've known Pat first when buying carpet from his store. Then the YMCA HE WAS passionate about helping people. So with one course on hair cutting at Colenso I went down to the ymca tennis courts market day. Cut hair for ,$2 adults free to kids I wasn't scared if the Mongrel mob got a trim hey they are humans too. One morning it was raining I called that a "wet cut". Pat loved to hear my stories of those days. He was a man in his own right there will never be another Pat Magill called in for a visit 3 days before he died he held my hand boy! What a grip. The two days spent with his journey from Maraenui the March to the Marae was awesome then the big farewell what a send off. The Preacher was awesome.

I first met Pat in 1967 when my husband Don worked for him at the storeroom in Carlyle Street then moving to Taradale Road. He guided us into buying a section in the new suburb of Tamatea then subsequently building our first home. We can remember all the wonderful functions he would put on for his staff and weekends away. He was today given the farewell he deserved.
