Died on March 8, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. June was proud of her 100 years of life.

Beloved mother of John, Helen, Tom, Will, Annabelle and dearly loved mother-in-law of their partners. June will be deeply missed by her grandchildren, great grandchildren and many family and friends around the world.

Heartfelt gratitude to the staff and carers at Atawhai for their wonderful and most compassionate care during June’s time with them.

A celebration of June’s life was held in the Dunstall Memorial Chapel, Edwardes Street, Napier on Sunday, March 13, 2022 at 10am. June was showered with garden flowers bought by those able to attend  her service.

I am Amelie's aunt from Ottawa Canada. . What a great lady Nana.I wish I would had have the great honor to meet this lovely adorable June.First time I have heard of her was when Amelie brought Miles to meet me in Ottawa. He was pround to let me know that his dear Nana after mentionning Nana age was the owner of a bed and breakfast in Napier and a marvelous gardener.I will always remember this from her that "the ability to adapt to changes is what kept her young at heart" from the funeral I had the chance to watch from home here in Canada.

June was an inspiration to many and will be long remembered for her invigorating personality and physical energy.Kindness and generosity personified,nothing was too much trouble for her when friends needed support.My sympathy to her family at this time .How fortunate you are to have more than usual in abundant ,positive memories to share.Sincerely,Cherry.

We first met June towards the end of 1993, just after Barry and I set up Chard Associates based on Kensington High Street. Barry had met June through a previous enterprise, rang her and invited her out for a drink. We met and, to be honest neither of us knew how to broach the subject of asking her to join us, after all we were new and didn’t even have any clients or instructions. June, typically solved the problem, by saying “ Well, I’ve no idea why you have asked me out for a drink, but if it’s to offer me a job, I accept”

Early in January of 1994, she joined us in our serviced office and got straight on with it. A few days later, she was late into the office, I assumed, wrongly, she’d had second thoughts (who could blame her), but in she came, turned out she had fallen on the icy pavement, twisted or broken her wrist, but got straight on with the job. Typical June.

I had no idea of her age, she certainly didn’t think she was, by then, already in her 70’s.

She helped us as we grew, moved into our first proper office in Camden Hill Road in Notting Hill, then our second in South Kensington, June never wanted management, but over time moved more and more into administration, but her main wish was to help and coach the ‘young people’ as they learnt how to do their jobs.

Mike Vernon helped out too as did John, a real family affair into which Barry and I were proud to be part of.

We were sad to see her return to New Zealand but know that she made so many ‘friends for life’ amongst the ‘Chard’ team, many of them hailing from Australia. Her name will live on.

Finally, I cannot end without a mention of the joy of her life, her garden in Kew. Many happy memories of relaxing with a glass of wine on a summers evening when work was done there.

We will always remember June's cheerful face at St. Anne's Church in Kew. She was a willing helper spending many an enjoyable Sunday afternoon with us serving Summer teas in our Church Hall. We loved passing her house in Burlington Avenue and choosing a plant or two from her front garden in aid of June's Blooms. We did so miss her when she decided to go back home to New Zealand, never doubting her success in her new venture. May she rest in peace.

I had the privilege of meeting Thomas's Nana only a few times, but she made such an impression. She was welcoming, full of life, and greeted the large mob of us that descended from Wellington as though she'd known us our whole lives. I've always followed the stories of what she was up to with glee, and I know that she is who I want to be when I grow up.

So sorry I cant be with you all today, such a wonderful family lead by afabulous energetic mother grandmother and best friend. When her grandson went to stay at kew I remember telling him not to climb a tree as she would climb it also. Little did i know 35 years ago she would climb every mountain. So many talents they can not be listed. Her words to me on my last visit one month ago.were I Never look back

June will be fondly remembered by so many people in Kew. Our children loved their after-school craft lessons with her. She was also an inspiration to us grown-ups, driving herself into London to work in Notting Hill with her young colleagues, going on anti-war marches and taking a helicopter ride with Mark in Napier on her 90th birthday. She was so vibrant and interesting and - apart from her hatred of vegetables ???? - we should all try to be more like June.

To all of Auntie June’s family, Chris and I would like to send our deepest sympathy to you all. She was the special lady who any age group found hugely interesting and compassionate. Her wealth of knowledge about life in general, her travels, and her beloved garden, her love of her family and many friends was inspiring.
Chris has I are unable to attend for health reasons. We send our love and good wishes to you all.
