Just watched the video and slideshow of Joyce. It was so touching. Being away from your home and family for so long is something I definitely relate to. I remember my mother Lorraine (McGillivray) Kowblick talking about her quite often. They were cousins and born the same year in Naicam / Lac Vert area. When I was young, remember meeting Uncle Armand and Aunt Ida and several of the kids but not exactly sure which ones who were visiting from Steinbach, Manitoba. In 1969 I finished school in Saskatchewan and moved to what was then Frobisher Bay, NWT. I always remember being told that Joyce had been nursing in Frobisher Bay for a few years and had moved to New Zealand. I was there from 1969 until 2006 and always wanted to contact her to talk about her time in the North and see if we knew any of the same people, but as time went by never seemed to have had the time. I was always looking at old pictures in archives from Frobisher Bay always looking to see if I could spot her. Over the last few years, I have visited relatives in Saskatchewan with my mother and Uncle George Gaudreau’s wife Hazel has always mentioned Joyce in NZ.
Please accept my sincere condolences to Joyce’s family and friends on her passing.
