It was with great sadness that I have just learnt of Isabel's death.
In the 1970's, when I was involved in similar work with the Friends of Nelson Haven and Tasman Bay, I first became aware of (and started admiring from a distance) Isabel's environmental activism to protect the Ahuriri estuary.
When I finally met Isabel she more than lived up to my expectations. What a wonderful, friendly, passionate, feisty, focused and fun woman! She has truly made a great contribution to conservation, not only in her Hawkes Bay community, but also to the country as a whole.
Isabel really made a difference - and will be sorely missed.
My heartfelt best wishes go out to Isabel's family and many friends.
