Charles Victor Rycroft

One of life’s true Yorkshire gentlemen left us peacefully on 21 st July 2016, aged 87 years.

Generous and kind to a fault, Victor was a totally devoted husband to his wife Valerie (deceased).  Victor was active in the British Territorial Army as a young man and a woolen mill manager/yarn agent during his working years.  He was also an admired teacher, mathematician, puzzle solver and adventurer to his family and friends.  Victor was adored by his children and grand children; Charles, Joy, Simon, Lily, Alex, Janell and David; Peter, Angela and Adele; Julia, Sam and Ryan.  Loved and respected brother and brother-in -law of Christopher (deceased) and Nancy (UK); David and Diana (SA); Gail, Michael and Shirley (UK).  He will be missed by his Princess Alexandra family.

Poem for Victor by grandson Sam Crowther:

There’s not many mountains he hasn’t climbed

He’s taken me with him many a time

He’s looked after me from a little Sprout

And showed me what life’s all about

There’s not much he hasn’t done

I guess that’s what makes him number one.

We thank everybody who has helped and supported Victor, especially the staff at Princess Alexandra and Hawke’s Bay Hospital.

A celebration of Victor’s life was held on Tuesday 26th July at 10am at Dunstall’s Chapel followed by refreshments.  In lieu of flowers a donation to Alzheimer’s NZ would be appreciated, which may be left at the Chapel.
