Our mate al
Hi im devan and Ive had the pleasure of working with Allen for the last decade at haden and custance. Ill give you a little insight of life working with big al. from the start of the day till the end Allen always had a huge smile on his face, every morning he would scuff his feet while spilling his coffee all the way done the work shop, you should see the state of our walkway. we would always tell him to pick up his feet to which he replied with “ I learnt to walk like this from dancing” he would greet you and ask how your night or weekend was ,it was always nice having a chat with him. When asking how he was he would always answer with immmm finnne. He was a very kind and generous man always willing to lend a hand. For the last year or so Allen always had a bag of lollies in his toolbox draw mostly pineapple lumps which we raided daily but seemed like the packet never emptied as he brought enough pineapple lumps for the week on the weekends. I think we all may loose abit of weight now. Allen was known to take up a lot of space at work he could occupy many tables at once with his junk, in his early days I sold him a toolbox frame to which he added draws and they rapidly filled with every tool that supercheap auto had to offer, he ended up with 3 tool boxes full to the brim with every tool you needed he also hoarded left over parts, fittings consumables and you were always sure if you were stuck on a job Allen had a tool or something that would get you through we called him the number 2 store. Smokos were always a laugh many heated debates happen with him and the boys sitting outside around the cable drum to which he mostly won as he was a subbon old bugger. He was a bright man had a lot of technical knowledge not only for engineering buuuut his forklift driving skills wernt that great whenever someone heard a bang the boys would yell out “al”
To sum it up Allen was cheerful, happy, kind, warm hearted and very clever he was one of the boys…
Tho the coffee stains may fade and the scuffing may have stopped Allen will never be forgotten and he will be missed by all…. Our friend our mate rest in peace big fulla
